At GWRFC, we recognise that talent needs to be identified and developed from a young age.

We cater for a wide range of youth rugby levels, from micro and minis rugby all the way to U18s.

We also run a Scottish Rugby Academy at the club which offers specialist training, including strength
and conditioning, to develop promising young athletes.

Our S1/U13, S2/U14, S3/U15, U16 and U18 boy’s teams compete in the Scottish Rugby Galant
Conference.

Further information on each team can be found below.

Micro and Minis

GWRFC Mini's Section operates under Scottish Rugby's guidelines for child protection and adheres to the Scottish Rugby's developing procedures.

The Mini's section has been established to promote rugby to children aged 5 to 11 (P1 to P7 inclusive). It is a part of one of the oldest clubs in Scottish Rugby and has been around since 1982, the Club itself since 1873.

The sport is built by progression - where children are taught to play only certain aspects of the game at each stage, to enable them to learn to communicate and build confidence within themselves.

In our Micro and Minis section, our primary aim is to encourage children to play and enjoy rugby.

All of our Coaches have obtained (or are in the course of obtaining) the required elements for the UKCC Level 1 Coaching Youth Rugby.

Our Coaches and other helpers are all unpaid volunteers.

Many of our parents are also Coaches or volunteers with the Minis and Micros section. Many of them (both mum and dad) play for our Senior teams! Rugby really is a family sport which encourages bonding and a shared love of the game.

COST
training

We operate the Minis section on a 'try-before-you-buy' period, usually for around 3 weeks, to allow the kids to settle in and let parents get the feel of things to ensure that all of the right boxes are ticked before membership is taken.

A family membership is £100 which covers both parents and all registered playing children up to age 17.

There is an additional cost per child of £15 (in the Micros and Minis) which covers the cost of the rugby shirt for the season. At the end of the season the shirt is handed back. If during the season the shirt becomes too small, then we change it for one that fits. We also have a boot recycle bin and if there is a pair of boots that fits your kids then you are welcome to them - there are boots in the bin from around size 10 to adult size 8.

Training for all Minis and Micros teams usually takes place on Wednesday evenings from 6.30 - 8pm and on Sundays from 12.30pm - 2.30pm. Any changes to training times will be communicated to parents. Why not follow us on Facebook and be first in the know.

Minis training is open to all children of any age and any gender. They will be allocated to their team based on age.

At the end of the year we have our 'Family Fun Day' where the Minis and Micros also have their prizegiving. Our prizegiving encourages not only development in rugby itself, but also of rugby's core principles of Integrity, Passion, Solidarity, Discipline and Respect.

If you would like to learn more about our Minis and Micros section or register your child to join, please contact us.
