GWRFC News Update

I hope everyone is keeping safe and well. If anyone knows of a Member requiring any assistance, please get in touch with the Committee. Our RDO is continuing to work full time on behalf of the Club and I'm sure everyone will have seen AJ's virtual sessions, videos and updates. Roger is also continuing to work and the grounds maintenance programme is ensuring our pitches will be ready for use as soon as we are allowed to re-open. Please note that the Clubhouse and grounds are only to be accessed by those doing maintenance or essential works.

Throughout the lock-down, a great deal has been going on in the background. Johnny Dyer has taken on the role of Director of Rugby and he is making contact across all sections along with AJ to keep coaches, players and parents involved in developments. Leigh Tyley is standing again as Club Captain and is working with the senior squad to ensure fitness regimes are maintained. We have advertised for and received a good response to our search for a new Club Head Coach. We will be interviewing candidates on the short list early this month and will look to appoint, as soon as possible.

The SRU are sending out updates and these are being forwarded for further distribution. The 19/20 season was declared null and void and so there will be no promotions or relegations for the coming season. It is also very unlikely that the League Re-structuring will go ahead at the end of the 20/21 season. The Gammell/Murray report has been shelved and work on the future Governance of the SRU has also been put on hold. Ian Barr of Lasswade will be the new President and the SRU are looking at ways of holding their AGM, which is currently set for 15 August.

We have applied for a number of the grants that are available due to the current circumstances and we are awaiting the outcome of these. They include the Council/Government grants and the SRU's Club Hardship Fund. In addition, the Beatrice Foundation has doubled its annual contribution this year to £2k which is aimed at support to the Ladies section.

The April 300 Club Draw was made 'virtually' yesterday and the following prizes were won: £100 - Ali Abernethy £60 - David Horne (Jnr) £40 - Neil Cook £125 - Rollover - The Rollover prize will continue to accumulate until the Club re-opens! £150 next month.

Big thanks to Diane Hughes who ran a 'Bonus Ball' completion last week with the prize being £150 to the winner, Jill Hughes and £145 going towards Club funds. Another competition will be held next week so look out for Diane's shoutout!

The Club is looking for volunteers to take on a number of managerial and administrative roles within the Club, as well as nominations for senior Committee positions. One area of particular need is Sponsorship. Our main Sponsor, M&M Search, has another year of the current arrangement to run but we are very sensitive to the fact that many of our regular programme and banner sponsors have been hugely affected by the current crisis. We need a small team to take on this important work and I would urge you to offer your services for any role you feel could benefit the Club.

The Club AGM is still scheduled for Thursday 25 June. Until and unless forced to change, we are setting that as a target date when the Club may be re-open, albeit with possible restrictions. We will update you nearer the time or as soon as there is any significant announcement to make.

Stay well, stay safe.
